And, another year of highway cleanup begins! Following are the 2017 scheduled cleanup days, but with a new twist:

  • Saturday, July 15, with Sunday, July 16, as an alternate in case of rain; and

  • Saturday, September 23, with Sunday, September 24, as an alternate in case of rain.

The new twist - each time you volunteer, your name will be entered into a drawing at the end of the year to win a new Savage Model 11 Hunter 223. rifle. We need 12-15 people for each scheduled cleanup, so your odds of winning are high, especially if you volunteer more than once. And, make this a family event by bringing the kids (if they're 12 or older) - they too will each have a chance to win the rifle. Recognizing that summer calendars fill quickly, we ask that you email Greg Hoiem at hoiem5447@comcast.net NOW to get your name on the schedule. We will also have a sign-up sheet at the monthly meetings.

We meet at the Meijer #50 MDOT car pool lot, at 5531 28th Street (corner of Kraft Ave SE and 28th St.). Meet time is 7:45 a.m., where we will have coffee and donuts. We will head out to start cleaning at 8:00 a.m., with each cleanup taking less than 2 hours to complete. Be sure to bring a pair of gloves. MDOT supplies trash bags and safety vests. See you there!

Those volunteering should visit this website, www.michigan.gov/adoptahighway, and view the safety video [HERE].

Your assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Membership in the Safari Club is the life blood of our Club’s future. The benefits of membership include access to all the resources, opportunities and camaraderie Safari Club has to offer and all local and national publications.

This year we are challenging each member to recruit at least one new member to join our Club. If everyone accomplishes this goal, we will have hundreds of new members spreading the news of this great organization!

We would like to encourage you to attend one of our monthly meetings and put on a presentation about a recent hunt or adventure you have taken. This would be a great opportunity for you to bring your nonmember friend(s). Your nonmember friend(s) would see your presentation, enjoy dinner and learn more about what Safari Club has to offer.

Throughout the next year, volunteers will be working at strategic events across West Michigan to educate and encourage hunters, sportsmen and sportswomen to join Safari Club in promoting the conservation of our valuable wildlife through hunting. If you belong to a shooting club, conservation club or are having an event where people would be interested in knowing more about Safari Club, please contact Joe Pedersen @ 616-262-1468 or Dale Ringerwole @ 616-915-9856  to arrange for a member to address your group.
