The Safari Club International measuring system was initially developed by SCI founder and chairman emeritus C. J. McElroy in 1977 for use in the SCI Record Book of Trophy Animals and the various awards programs. Although a number of changes have been made since then, it remains a consistent, universal system under which similar trophies from all parts of the world are measured and scored in the same way.
